Be a Donor Month
On March 19, Council proclaimed April 2019 as “Be a Donor Month" in honour of organ and tissue donation and transplant.
Did you know that the majority of Ontarians support organ and tissue donation, yet only 33% of eligible Ontarians have registered their consent to donate? Many mistakenly believe that they are already registered as a donor, even those carrying paper donor cards. You can verify your registration by visiting beadonor.ca ...it only takes a few minutes!
Today, in Ontario, there are over 1,500 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant
1 donor can save up to 8 lives through organ donation and the lives of up to 75 more through the gift of tissue.
Age alone does not disqualify someone from becoming a donor
The oldest organ donor was over 90 years old
The oldest tissue donor was over 100 year old
Organ and tissue donation does not impact funeral plans.
Your current or past medical history does not prevent you from registering to be a donor.
If you register your consent for organ and tissue donation, always remember to share your wishes with your family.
